Medina Balešić (she/her) is an artist, aspiring curator and dialogue creator at heart working in the vast field of digital art. Born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden to Bonsian parents who sought out refuge in the early 90s. The diverse political ecology surrounding her upbringing shaped her life through music and culture from the homeland, mixed with Swedish culture - a culture was created amongst friends in something that is referred to as the third culture.
Balešić is currently moving between Amsterdam, Gothenburg and Banja Luka. In her work we encounter a section that questions the status quo.
How are we - can we be - together?
Managing projects that are community-based aiming toward unity such as ‘CRYSIS’ - a platform made to share and provide and ‘we might not know each other but let me feed you your favorite fruit’, sharp ideas materialize through explorations of sound, vibrations, moving bodies, digital material, using found footage, dreams, text which help express her inner dialogue and documentary style video work such as ‘Little Paper’ where topics of migration, childhood, bureaucracy appear. Adapting skillset to the project is vital, with each project something is obtained, transformed for the audience to digest.
She taps into the digital fabric where a pulse is channeled and expressed in fast pace editing via sound and visuals we get a glimpse of her mind. A place that’s similar to a melting pot where the timeline of events are crumbled, mixed and restructured, used as a tool to assess generational decision making that unfolds the future.
